Why do you use Mylar sail cloth?
Mylar has a few advantages in comparison to Dacron sail cloth. With the layer of monofilm as part of the sandwhich it stretches dramatically less. We use it in the luff of the sails and anywhere reinforcements are, in areas of load. This is why our sails keep their shape twice as long as Dacron sails.
The layer of cloth ensures that the seams last even though it is thin. Mylar has monofilm in it and because of this it doesn’t absorb water. Mylar absorbs half as much water as Dacron and therefor our sails our nice and light even when they are wet.
