High Tech made by Sailloft

The BIONIC Sail Technology excels through an intelligently thought-out network of material and load.
The highest level of sail ingenuity comes from the yacht racing industry and is now exclusively used in Sailloft products.

The BIONIC recipe:

First, a thin piece of x-ply is laminated to a grid structure. This base laminate is then combined with a layer of Aramid(Twaron®) enforcements in a radial format in order to provide the perfect load distribution. On top of that a final layer of monofilm is added as a protection for the kevlar laminate. This five-layered membrane is then baked together at 80° Celsius and 6 tons of pressure.
After the baking the Bionic Fibre Laminate 1 is left to cure for one week. Only then they are actually fitted as panels in our BIONIC sail line.
The placement of the Aramid(Twaron®) enforcements are so that the forces are introduced to the sail in an optimum way and due to this the centre panel’s weight can be further reduced by making them from a light x-ply. With our BIONIC line we use 2.5 mil x-ply versus the standard 5 mil.
This modern production style combined with our knowledge from many years of development and newest sailmaking techniques has generated our BIONIC. There is no point in having the best technology if the designs are not right. Sailloft BIONIC like all Sailloft products are made with purely modern sailmaking techniques.
